In the USA a Czech expert presented a vision for a new electronic identity solution

On Thursday May 1st in the Californian town of Santa Clara, an international conference was held on the subject of e-Government, which also covered the subject of „Electronic Identity and Citizen-Centric Administration". The conference, which was organised by the consortium OASIS, was addressed by Czech Libor Neumann of ANECT, who presented a vision for a new electronic identity solution called ALUCID.

According to Neumann, there already exists a range of technologies that could contribute towards an electronic identity solution. None of them, however, are completely suitable on their own, particularly with respect to security. „The system most accepted is login/password; this, however, is a concept dating back to the 1970s and is therefore not sufficiently secure and does not protect privacy," stated Libor Neumann of ANECT during his presentation.
The objective of the ALUCID project, which is based on an anonymous, liberal and user orientated electronic identity, is, in Neumann's opinion, the attempt to find a solution that will meet all current requirements using all currently available technologies.
The conference itself was divided into three main panels; the first primarily discussed the engagement of the citizen in the process, the second panel covered services provided to citizens and the third dealt with the actual implementation of e-Government. As well as the ALUCID project, a range of other interesting projects from around the world were also presented at the conference; for example, the Italian ICAR "Federated Identity model" and the Belgian model, "Security for eGov".
