ANECT Again Supports BAZALKA Project
Once again, the ANECT Fund Board decided to support the BAZALKA Project, which had started two years ago in Milosrdných bratří Hospital in Brno. The second phase of the project was realized at the Home for Disabled People in Střelice (near Brno) at the end of last year. With ANECT financial support the wards for bed-bound clients were turned into nice and cozy, homelike rooms full of colors and pictures.
The "Bazalka – User-friendly Hospital" project started with the pilot phase at the ARIM ICU Dpt. of Milosrdných bratří Hospital in Brno. The second phase of the project has now been realized in Střelice near Brno where a Home for Disabled People is located. The ANECT Fund has been collaborating with the Home and supporting their activities for years. The most recent event in Střelice which was organized by ANECT staff was a Christmas Fun Day in December 2010. The company employees came with a bunch of games and fun activities, which they all prepared in their own free time.
The objective of the Bazalka project is to implement the basal stimulation concept in a hospital environment. Basal stimulation is a type of hospital care which focuses on essential life needs of patients who are bound to bed for a long time and are unable to move. It is a complex nursing approach to patients who are in the vegetative state (coma vigil) as well as to people with disabilities, preterm infants and demented seniors. The method is based on complex stimulation. These bed-bound patients often end up watching their white bed sheets and the white ceiling above them all day, and they hardly ever get a chance to manipulate any objects, which means that their body functions quickly deteriorate.
